Welcome. This course is an invitation to notice leadership in motion, try something, make sense of it, and decide what you will do next.

The course site is for enrolled students. This page is open to anyone who wants to see what HRD 6301 is and who teaches it.
Trouble signing in? Use your @uh.edu address — that is the one to give us. (A @cougarnet.uh.edu address will also work if that is what you have.) If it still will not let you in, email rchausmann@uh.edu and I will add you.
About the class
Leadership is something you learn to notice.
HRD 6301 follows leadership thought across time, then asks you to use those ideas in your own setting. We meet some Mondays in the room or in Microsoft Teams. Other Mondays you work on your own. Every open week has the same three activities: Probe, Make Sense, and Respond.
Twice across the semester you will teach one idea so a classmate can use it — once early, once late. You will keep a trail of Case Signals. By December those signals become a Leadership Case Study of how your thinking changed.
How it runs
The shape of the semester.
Fourteen Mondays, some in the room, some on your own — and the same three activities every week.
- Mondays, August 24 – December 7
- Fourteen weeks · seven live sessions · seven worked asynchronously
- Three face-to-face in the College of Engineering, four on Microsoft Teams
- Probe · Make Sense · Respond, every week
- Two Leadership Perspective teach-backs — one early, one late
- A Leadership Case Study built from your Case Signals
Learning objectives
What you will be able to do.
By the end of the term, you should be able to do each of these in your own setting.
About the instructor
Dr. Robert Hausmann
Educator. Facilitator. Pilot. Observer of human systems. Robert is a professor in the University of Houston EdD Professional Leadership program and an international leadership consultant. His work sits at the intersection of leadership development, organizational learning, and making sense when the stakes are high.
He founded the Open Sky Leadership Institute. The belief that runs through this class is simple: where we gather shapes what we are open to seeing. Different places reveal different possibilities. This course is one of those gatherings.

Intellectual anchor
Begin in Leadership Discourse.
The course follows leadership thought across time. Leadership Discourse is the map. You will use it later to choose a perspective and teach it so a classmate can act on it.
